Washington: Democrats are currently favored to regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, with the latest Kalshi forecast giving them an 85% chance of winning a House majority.

The forecast reflects a highly competitive congressional landscape, with Democrats holding strong advantages in a large number of districts while Republicans maintain substantial leads in many traditionally conservative areas.
According to Kalshi’s current House ratings, six races are classified as toss-ups, with three favoring Democrats and three favoring Republicans. Another group of districts is rated as “Lean Democratic” or “Lean Republican,” making these contests particularly important to the battle for control of the chamber. (Kalshi)
The forecast also highlights several potential Democratic pickups. Among the competitive races identified are contests in states such as California, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin, North Carolina and New York.
The outlook comes with roughly 71 days remaining until the November election, meaning the forecast could change substantially as campaigns develop, candidates gain or lose momentum, and new polling becomes available.

However, an 85% forecast is not a prediction that Democrats will definitely win. It represents the probability assigned by the forecasting or prediction-market model at a particular point in time. With the House majority potentially decided by a relatively small number of competitive districts, the 2026 midterms are shaping up to be a major test of the political strength of both parties.
